The redevelopment of the Broadwater site is the single most important issue currently facing the town.
So far, we have not seen enough of Tesco’s proposals to form a view as to whether these are in the interest of the town or not. Until Tesco explain exactly what it has in mind, the Society is unable to come to any real conclusion. In any event, because the redevelopment is so important, the Committee of the Society would engage with its full membership before coming to a decision.
The Council announced that there would be a Development Consultation Forum on Thursday 19th August 2010. This is a meeting where the developers (Tesco PLC through its development unit, Spenhill) can present to Councillors what they propose to do prior to submitting a formal planning application. The idea of the forum is to enable developers to take aboard appropriate feedback. The Society sent a copy of a briefing paper to all WGC Councillors outlining its concerns and raising questions that it would like to see addressed. Click here to read its briefing paper.
