Easter – Spring has sprung. After the really wet winter, the Nature Trail paths and woodlands paths have dried out. Easter is just around the corner. Park Fruit trees are now in bloom and delightful wood anemones are carpeting sections of Birchall Wood.

The bluebells have started to flower. It will  peak in a week or so. The bluebells have spread in recent years, which is pleasing. Go out and enjoy the the woods over the coming weeks.

Kites - Let’s go an fly a kite. Show your child and grandchild the pleasure of kites. We have a wonderful outdoor space  here in Moneyhole Park. Make this a summer of memories. Weekends, Bank Holidays and throughout summer are ideal time for fresh air and family time.

Noticeboard – lock was tampered over the winter. Finesse promised to replace it after April. We await this replacement.

Park Maintenance - John Bayliss is the new maintenance supervisor. Please contact him if there are issues around the park at j.bayliss@finesseleisure.com. John has asked all park users  to help to remove branches that can damage the grass cutting mowers. John was made aware of the broken bench near the Wyton entrance and hopefully this will be repaired in the near future.

Nature Trail -  It is over 2 years since we volunteers relaid the Western sections of the trail as we lost our supply of free wood chippings.  John was told that Finesse should now take over responsibility for the maintenance.

Muntjac - a muntjac was attacked and killed last month. If anyone knows the identity of the owner or the German Shepherd dog, do contact the police. This is the second attack in the last 3 years. Sadly these things happen unless owners are in control of their pets. http://www.whtimes.co.uk/news/deer_ripped_apart_by_savage_dog_in_horror_attack_at_welwyn_garden_city_park_1_3370514?usurv=skip

Park Angels -  As always without the many park angels quietly picking litter as they go, our park and woods would not be as clean. Thank you.

Orchards boost Wildlife - This idea of planting fruit trees are catching on. FoM fully supports this and hopefully Finesse and WHBC do too.  http://www.whtimes.co.uk/news/boost_for_welwyn_hatfield_wildlife_1_3542827. Contact them and your Councillors if you support this.

Friends of the Mimram - Good news as Affinity has agreed to reduce the amount of water abstraction in the coming years. Well done Affinity and Friends of the Mimram for their campaigns.

Free Open Meeting Wednesday, 14th May7.30 in the Civic Hall, Old Welwyn http://www.friendsofthemimram.co.uk/contact.html or email davidcheek@btinternet.com

Friends of Panshanger Park (FPP) - The inaugural walk of a new walk in Panshanger Park was held on Monday 31 March. It was a great turnout. You can now walk from Moneyhole through Henry Woods on to Panshanger Park via Butterfield Way to the new loop Country Park East walk. Try it.

“32 years have passed since the signing of a legal agreement to deliver a Country Park at Panshanger. A Park to be returned to the people of Hertfordshire In exchange for valuable mineral extraction rights given to owners Lafarge Tarmac.
Finally, a substantial part of the new Country Park will open on Monday 31st March 2014. This is phase one (Country Park East) and represents about one third of the Country Park area.  More areas of the Park should open later in 2014″
