The proposal to build a new waste incinerator at the New Barnfield site in Hatfield is a major issue currently. This page is a collection of useful links that pertain to the saga. Currently it’s the case that Herts County Council are standing behind the plan from Veolia to clear the site and begin the work. Meanwhile local pressure has brought about a judicial review regarding the recent decision to force Southfields school on the site to forcibly relocate.

The incinerator application was given the green light by Herts County Council on October 24th. County councillors voted 11-4 in favour of it. Most in favour being Conservative councillors who live very far from Hatfield. Six thousand local people did object however, so much for localism!

It is possible that the DCLG will call in the decision for scrutiny however, so there is still hope. there is also a new consultation running until December, which can be commented on.
