FOI Requests

The Freedom of Information Act means that local authorities and other publicly funded bodies are legally bound to supply any information that they hold to the public, with a few exceptions of course around sensitive data.

Many of the requests can be tracked on the excellent ‘What do they know’ website. Submitting an FOI via this website will give your request the biggest audience and local awareness so it’s a recommended route. The council is legally obliged to respond to all FOI requests within 20 days.¬† The response will either contain the information you want, or give a valid legal reason why it must be kept confidential.
